I just got home from a trip. It is amazing how much you can miss a person when you just left them. This is one of those times I wish I could incorporate a faraway person into my daily life.
I wish you a happy (belated) Thanksgiving. Let us thank the Lord our God for His mercies, grace, and awesome love!

A Lifeguard First

Today is a first ~ I am cold at work. :O It is 69 degrees on deck today!

What a Cute Night!

I had one of my swim lesson girls and her sister give me a "head-five" tonight. They were too cold to take their hands out of their towels so they head-butted my hand. They are so cute. =)

Crosswinds

My work requires that I either sit or stand for long periods of time in an 88-100+ degree atmosphere. We are not allowed to open the pool doors to admit a breeze. To skirt around the open-door issue (which creates a fire hazzard) I dead-lock the doors so that the lock props them open just enough to create a breeze. I found the "sweet spot" today where the two breezes intersect and give me the optimum cool factor. :)

A Tired Xiao Ke Ai = A Jabbermouth

I have come to the realization that when I am deprived of my sleep I vomit words. Apparently when I do this I do not know half of what I am saying. Also, people do not tell me to stop. I wonder if this is because I amuse them or they are being polite. A tired lifeguard is probably not the best kind. As for Chinese, I make my best mistakes when tired. For instance, when I tried to say, "I am American but like to eat Chinese food," but accidentally said, "I am American but like to eat Chinese people."

Some Lifeguard Truths

• Contrary to popular belief, we are human. If you ignore or yell at us, we will remember it.
• Yeah, we get bored.
• We try to alleviate that boredom by doing some crazy things.
• These include dodgeball-esque fights, water fights, giving each other five-stars, doing backflips off the guard stand...
• Yes, we have videotaped some of these things. =D
• If you videotaped some of the things lifeguards do...you would become a YouTube star.
• Most of all though, we like to have fun.

When I think of some others (or if you can think of some) I will post them. ^.^ I might even be able to talk to a co-worker and get some videos for you guys.

A Crazy Week: Almost to an End

It is 2:45am and I am finally getting to go to bed! Pray for me ~ my midterm is in just a few hours! I will have to update you on the all the crazy stuff that happened today at work. Mike and I had an epic fail putting in lane lines. :) night!

Oh My Job

I just had a conversation with a naked woman in the shower... Oh my job. :O

You're snookered, kid.

One of the patrons asked me if I have a change of clothes in case I have to jump in and save one of them. When I replied in the negative, she said, "You're snookered, kid." It made me giggle (while desperately trying to keep a straight face!). She said it like one of those old mobster shows would said, "You're dead, kid."

Swimsuit Theories

The only place I have found where it is acceptable to wear the same clothes over and over again is the pool. Many people only own one swimsuit. And when one gets a new suit, people notice and comment. This leads me to wonder why this is acceptable. If I wore the same t-shirt every day I would get negative comments. If I then wore a different t-shirt it would be considered as a necessary change. I wonder if this phenomenon has to do with the bacteria-killing agents in chlorine.

*Sigh* I am a Girl

One of the worst things about being a girl is that we over-analyze. There is a cute asian guy that I work with. I have offered to come in early for him sometimes, have taken a few of his shifts for him, and have thanked him with a gift. (I do this for everyone...I like helping out!) I am not sure he realizes that I do this for everyone, however. In fact, I have been wondering lately if he thinks that I like him and therefore feels slightly awkward around me. I have even speculated that he has found out that I like asian men. His best friend already knows. o.O

(From here-on-in I will refer to the asian as the "asian lifeguard" and his friend as the "bodybuilder". That will hopefully save us some confusion. Please see the Cast of Characters at the top of page for more clarification.)


So the bodybuilder assured me that the asian lifeguard has no idea I like asian men. Which is interesting because last week the asian lifeguard started striking up conversations and asking me questions. Before that, he tended to ignore me. Anyway ~ today I sent him a text offering to take the end of his shift so he could get to his second job. He sent me a return text saying, "Ok I guess... thanks." I felt like I had come across as a creeper...or at the very least an obsessive girl who liked him. So I sent him a text back saying, "I am sorry if that seemed weird/random. I just thought I could help. Sorry." And he said, "No, it's fine. You are just helping out a friend." When I read that, I laughed ~ out loud. Haha. Was he saying I was just helping him out? Or was he refering to himself as my friend? (Which, we are most definately not. I tend to make aquaintances easily ~ it takes me a year or so to determine if someone is truly my friend. Plus, doesn't a friendship take talking and spending time together?). Was he refering to the lifeguard who is supposed to relieve him as my friend? (Which, again, he is not). I absolutely DESPISE over-analyzing. And yet, I can't figure out what people mean! T.T

Well, that was my rant for the day. ^.^ I really should have been in bed 2 hours ago. Oh well. Here is my song for the day! Click >>here<<.

Nah, in all seriousness, I just wanted to do a quick update. I have been self-banned (not only from Facebook anymore but also) from my house. My older brother's girlfriend had surgery today and needed a place to recoop. Ergo, she is staying at our house until Thursday. Oddly enough, she is one of the only people that can annoy me. Go figure.

So, because of this I am spending a few days at Kati-san's house...which is completely throwing me off my regular schedule. As well, I do not feel well. So here I sit in the library practicing Chinese and listening to Paul Dateh. I would love it if a Paul Dateh-Wang Leehom-Mike He-Andrew Gunadie mixture actually DID exist. I would marry him. In a heartbeat. ^.^

I was looking for some more Chinese translations that I could practice with (I completed the ones in my books...yah, I am a nerd) and I stumbled upon a really cool website. It is Berkley University's website.. click >here< It has a lot of cool study/practice programs (sentence structure, vocab, listening comprehension, etc.) for each chapter of the first level of Integrated Chinese.
